easy everyday skincare routine + the BEST eye masks.

ladies (& gents if you are reading, hello!), i’m pretty sure i have found THE BEST & THE SIMPLEST skincare routine, and it uses only FIVE products. can you tell i’m excited?
just to preface, i’ve never had super acne-prone skin. i do tend to get pesky breakouts around that time of the month (go hormones!!) but nothing too bad. my skin can get very dry very quickly (except my dang t-zone), so i always have to remember to moisturize like crazy. this goes for you too my oily skin babes. my trouble spot has always been my under eye area…bags, dark circles, dry skin you name it. i blame it on my night owl nature, aka me just staying up way too late bingeing on netflix.
alright let’s jump into this routine.
1. makeup remover & cleanser
i finally decided to give this micellar water trend a try, and boy am i glad i did! it removes makeup and cleanses your skin all in one. give the garnier skinactive micellar cleansing water a try.
2. wash / acne treatment
my doctor told me about the panoxyl wash when i told her about my breakouts. she swears by it and said that she recommends it to all her patients, so i decided to give it a try at the beginning of this year. typically, my skin will become immune, for lack of a better word, to whatever face wash i’m using, causing me to switch every month or so. but i’ve been using this product for six months now, and i don’t think i’ll ever go back.
3. moisturize
i almost always use two moisturizers at night. a more concentrated one for my under eyes & neck and another for my whole face. my basic go-to moisturizer is the neutrogena oil free lotion. i don’t personally like using a moisturizer with spf because they tend to be way more oily.
for my under eyes, i’m currently burning through a mini jar of l’occitane “immortelle” precious cream, but my drugstore fav that i stupidly left in stillwater is the olay active botanicals. it’s soooo moisturizing.
4. masks
alright, i saved the best for last. i started using the oxygen eye masks from VII Code only a couple weeks ago and i can already tell a difference. let me give you a little run down about this product. unlike most masks, this is an 8-hr overnight eye mask. i put them on after moisturizing right before i go to bed and fall asleep with them on no problem. they are designed to allow oxygen to flow through to your skin, which promotes healthy cell growth in that stubborn under eye area.
my absolute favorite part about these masks is the gel like material that sits on your skin. it is so cooling and refreshing! you know when you flip your pillow over to the cold side? it’s like that! lol
i use these bad boys 2-3 times a week, & i better get another box because i’m about out!
(VII Code suggests using three boxes for a full treatment.)
well there you have it! my secrets are out..but what fun are secrets anyways? sharing is caring, am i right, ladies?
before i sign off, a huge thanks to VII Code for sponsoring today’s post!
and because they are so great, they gave me a discount code to share with you all so you can save some moneyyy!
use code: N6SS936Z (valid through june 20)
try out the products from this routine and let me know what you think! it’s great because almost all of them are drugstore products (ya girl’s ballin on a budget over here), but they are still fantastic!
alright, it’s way past my bedtime…talk to you later, lovebugs!

this just in: nyx haul!

so i’ve noticed that when i get bored i find myself at ulta. how dangerous is that?! thank goodness stillwater doesn’t have a sephora…that could do some serious damage.
i swear ulta has a target-like effect. you know, where you find yourself wandering around aimlessly looking at everything you don’t need when you only went in to grab some dry shampoo. guilty as charged.

in this little haul, i have a couple of repurchases that are tried and true (and probably on my holy grail list), a couple recommended products and a couple random things that were bought via the target effect.

i realized when i was putting this haul together that almost everything was NYX, so i thought that i could make this post even more specific and just tell you about some new NYX products i bought.

powder brush (02) – i was in the market for a new setting powder brush, and i’m usually not too picky. as long as it seems well made and it’s super soft, it’s fine with me. well let me tell ya, this is the softest brush EVER. i just wanna sit there and run i across my cheek all day, but that would be weird so i’ll try to refrain.

duo chromatic illuminating powder – this product was a total impulse purchase. my sister snapchatted me about these a few weeks ago, and i’m pretty sure i went to ulta the same day and bought one. this one has a pink duo chrome, which i love because it’s a little bit more natural. meanwhile, my 15 year old sister is a badass, wears the purple one and KILLS IT.

matte bronzer (deep tan) – pretty much just waiting for my lorac tantilizer bronzer to either run out completely or shatter in thousands of unusable little pieces so i can open this. i love a good matte bronzer, so i have high hopes for this bad boy.

micro brow pencil (taupe) – a forever repurchase. it’s made the holy grail product list and i it will never be replaced.
dear nyx, please don’t discontinue this product. xoxo, em

lip liner pencil (mauve) – another repurchase. my current one is down to a lil nub so i thought it was time to replace it. this is a great natural “your lips but better ” color. i used to wear this almost everyday and i’m not sure why i stopped. i’m definitely happy i “rediscovered ” this color!!

do you have any nyx products that you’d recommend? let me know!

my favorite perfumes.

if you haven’t noticed by now, i love sharing favorites.
i swear it’s the nosey part of me coming out. i always want to know what products people are using, because well, if they are good enough i want to use them too!
today i wanted to share a few of my favorite perfumes, and not just to tell you what brand and underlying notes it has but to categorize them in a more useful way by season or situation.
because if i told you i love dolce & gabbana light blue for its notes of sicilian cedar and apple, you’d say “oh, okay” and keep going. but if i told you it’s my favorite scent for summertime, that might be a little more helpful..ya feel?

for every day: Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede
out of all twenty-six fragrances that jo malone offers, this has got to be my number one. i mean, it’s reached holy grail status, y’all. jo malone describes it as “flirtacious” with notes of juicy red apple, jasmine and rose, which i’ve noticed are common in a lot of my favorite scents. i’m a creature of habit i guess.

for spring time: Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue
imagine it’s the most perfect spring day. like april 25th, because it’s not too hot and not too cold…all you need is a light jacket. 😉 this is the scent for that day. it’s the perfect combination of fruity and floral with notes of sicilian cedar, apple, white rose, and solid base notes of amber and citron wood.

for date night: Marc Jacobs Decadence
i feel like this is a fragrance you’ll either love or hate…but i hope you’ll love. it’s definitely a deeper, woodier scent perfect for a date night with your man. it has top notes of italian plum, iris and saffron, and after it settles into your skin the base notes of amber and papyrus woods really come out.
decadence is one of my favorite perfumes, so i use it sparingly. but maybe i’m biased because it was my first purchase from bergdorf’s. 😉

for summer: Elizabeth + James Nirvana White
i had such a hard time deciding whether to buy the nirvana white or black. they are both amazing! props to you mary kate & ashley.
surprise, surprise it’s another floral scent. peony, muguet and musk are the key notes in this scent, which make it perfect for sweet summer days.
*que the windows down, hair blowing around and sun in my face.*

now i’m off for a fun weekend trip to fort worth, texas!
posts on the weekend to come, no worries. 😉
