spring break part one: NOLA

IT’S SPRANNGG BREAAAKKK Y’ALL!!
(sorry for the spring breakers reference, but i had to.)
oh and not apologizing for the photo overload. 🙂
this will be the first spring break that i’m not hitting the slopes, which is exciting and sad all at the same time. exciting because, well come on who doesn’t love the beach?! and sad because skiing is one of my all time favorite things to do.
anywho, momma and i decided we’d take a little longer to get to fort walton beach, florida and spend the night in NOLA (that’s new orleans for all of you that aren’t up to date ;)). we stayed in the Riverfront Omni Hotel & Resort, which is right across from the riverwalk that conveniently has great shopping!
we spent our first afternoon exploring the french quarters and downtown NOLA. let me tell you, if you’ve never been it’s quite the experience, especially at night. the people, the atmosphere and city all light up at night. IT’S INSANE, but so cool. we went to Deanie’s Seafood for dinner…SO GOOD, but SO BUSY. get there early or expect to be waiting over an hour, which is definitely worth it by the way. after dinner we pretty much just walked around people watching and seeing what all downtown had to offer.
we were told before we left on our trip that we HAD to get beignets while in new orleans, so we went to the famous Cafe Du Monde for some french press coffee and beignets completely covered in powdered sugar. again, SO GOOD.
tips for new orleans from a first-timer:
– WALK. if you get a hotel in the french quarters or downtown, walk everywhere. and if you must drive park in the public french quarter parking. spots on the street are tiny and good luck finding one.
– cafe du monde. go there. it’s so stinkin’ good. however, the french quarter location is NOT the only one. remember that when you see the line.
– i gave mom a hard time for this, but carry a map if you need one. the streets all look the same (especially at night) and you might get turned around if you’re not careful.
NOLA, you’ve been good to me..but this girl needs her white sand beaches and bikinis.

today’s look..join the club.

and by join the club i mean the turtle club.
i’m going to be totally honest, as of three days ago turtlenecks and i were not friends. i just can’t stand something being tight around my neck, and i’m not even claustrophobic! but this sweater i can get along with. this beauty came in my box from Ro&De and let me tell you it is SO SOFT, the collar is loose and slouchy so it’s super comfy, and as per usual I’M IN LOVE.
normally, i wouldn’t gravitate to a piece like this for three reasons.
1) turtleneck. enough said.
2) it’s cropped, which doesn’t usually work out for tall girls like myself.
3) i typically steer clear of funky patterns.
so, thank you Ro&De for showing me the error of my ways. hahah
